English-medium education and Western branch campuses at Asian prices

Language of instruction: English
Visa: Student Pass (via EMGS)
Scholarship: MIS — master's and PhD only

Why Malaysia

Malaysia is one of the few destinations combining English-medium education with a low cost of living. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, more than 159,000 international students study here, roughly 12.6% of total higher-education enrolment.

A distinctive advantage is the branch campuses: Monash University Malaysia and the University of Nottingham Malaysia award the parent university's degree while you study in Malaysia, at a lower cost than Australia or the UK.

The country's five research universities host over 41,000 international students — about 22% of their intake — so the international environment is a reality of campus life rather than a claim.

The MIS scholarship: two limits that matter

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is administered by the Ministry of Higher Education. It is open to citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia — confirmed by the official recipient-country list.

First limit: MIS covers master's and doctoral study only. There is no verified government scholarship of this kind for international undergraduates, and we say so plainly rather than leaving false expectations in place.

Second: under the programme's official guidelines the scholarship covers exactly two things — tuition and a monthly living allowance. Many aggregator sites claim MIS also pays for flights, insurance and books; that is not in the official guidelines. Eligibility includes a CGPA of 3.00 and English at IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL PBT 550.

Visa and study costs

International students obtain a Student Pass through EMGS, the system owned by the Ministry of Higher Education: eVAL approval first, then an entry visa. Applications must be made from outside Malaysia, and a medical examination is required within seven days of arrival.

Tuition depends on the university and programme; there is no reliable national average — figures on aggregator sites are often whole-programme totals misreported as annual. Check the specific university's own fee page.

UNIPROFI in Malaysia

We are launching the Malaysia direction. While the team is forming, the most valuable thing we can offer is honest navigation: which programmes are accredited, how a Western branch campus differs from a local university, and what the scholarship genuinely covers.
