Funding a degree in Russia
What actually exists here, what you can apply for, and where people most often get it wrong.

Government quota (state-funded)
Tuition covered by the Russian federal budget, plus a monthly stipend and dormitory place. Applications typically open in the autumn and close around the start of November for the following academic year, and are made through the official portal, with selection in your own country first.
Paid admission (direct to university)
You apply straight to the university and pay tuition yourself. Far more predictable than the quota — Russian tuition is typically a fraction of comparable Western programmes — and deadlines are later and more flexible.
