Shanxi University (SXU) is one of China's first three modern universities, founded in 1902 alongside Peking University and Tianjin University, and based in Taiyuan. It's not part of Project 211 or 985 — Shanxi's only Project 211 school is the separate Taiyuan University of Technology — but SXU's Physics discipline is included in the Double First-Class initiative.
