Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) has an unusual history: its campus occupies the former site of the National Southwestern Associated University ("Lianda"), where Tsinghua, Peking University and Nankai University relocated together during 1938–1946 to escape the war with Japan. Not to be confused with Yunnan University (ynu), a separate school also in Kunming.

Chinese universities tighten portfolio and motivation-letter requirements every year — we track this university by university, so every application matches what the admissions committee actually expects right now.

The university preserves the Lianda memorial and historic buildings as a heritage site, while specializing in education, teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and ethnology, drawing on Yunnan's exceptional ethnic diversity.

The university admits international students to language programs, bachelor's and master's degrees, and offers grants. Kunming's mild climate and the campus's Lianda heritage make it a distinctive choice for anyone interested in modern Chinese history.
