How Much Does It Cost to Study in Poland in 2026/27? From 1,500 zł a Month, and Every University Sets Its Own Tuition

The short answer
There is no single tuition price in Poland. The official portal study.gov.pl says so itself: there is no national fee for international students, and each institution sets the price for its programme. So a number from an old overview cannot be trusted.
Here is what we could check. At AGH, a technical university in Kraków, one semester of a bachelor's taught in English costs from €1,250 (Space Engineering) to €3,000 (Computer Science) in 2026/27, which is €2,500 to €6,000 a year. For living costs, study.gov.pl says "from around 1,500 zł a month" (about €330), and the University of Warsaw suggests planning for 2,300–2,800 zł.
We checked these figures on 6 November 2026. Requirements depend on the university, programme and intake year.
Who studies free and who pays
Full-time programmes taught in Polish at public universities are free for Polish citizens and for foreigners who meet the legal conditions. The portal names EU and EEA citizens, Pole's Card holders, refugees and people with permanent or long-term residence as examples. Doctoral studies in Poland are free too.
Everyone else pays. The amount depends on the university and programme. We wrote about the Pole's Card separately: free study with the Pole's Card.
Real tuition prices: AGH in 2026/27
Each university publishes its own price table. We opened AGH's page for the 2026/27 academic year. One detail matters: the amounts there are per semester, not per year. This is where parents most often get confused.
- Bachelor's, Computer Science: €3,000 per semester, €6,000 a year.
- Bachelor's, Mechanical Engineering: €1,725 per semester, €3,450 a year.
- Bachelor's, Space Engineering: €1,250 per semester, €2,500 a year.
- Master's, International Management: €3,500 per semester, €7,000 a year.
- Master's, Mechatronic Engineering: €2,100 per semester, €4,200 a year.
- AGH application fee: 85 zł per chosen field, or 100 zł if the maths entrance exam is needed.
Housing and living: ranges from official pages
Housing depends on the city. A dormitory is cheapest, and a room in a private flat costs twice as much or more.
- Dormitory: 500–1,200 zł a month (study.gov.pl). The University of Warsaw gives 480–950 zł, Gdańsk University of Technology 500–700 zł.
- Room in a private flat: 1,000–2,000 zł a month (study.gov.pl).
- Studio or small flat: 2,500 to 4,000 zł and up (study.gov.pl).
- Food: from 700 zł a month (University of Warsaw).
- Transport in Warsaw: a monthly pass costs 55 zł for students, 110 zł at full fare.
- Total a month: 2,300–2,800 zł according to the University of Warsaw, 2,000–3,500 zł according to Gdańsk University of Technology.
What it adds up to for a year: three scenarios
This is our own calculation from the figures above. It is a guide, not a price list.
- Frugal: dormitory and tuition of €2,500–3,500 a year. Living at 2,000 zł a month: 24,000 zł a year.
- Middle: tuition of about €3,450 and living at the University of Warsaw's 2,300–2,800 zł a month, which is 27,600–33,600 zł a year.
- With a cushion: tuition of €6,000 and living at 3,500 zł a month, which is 42,000 zł a year.

Money for the residence permit: 1,010 zł a month
Once you are in Poland and apply for a student residence permit, you must show funds for living. The University of Warsaw's welcome office gives 1,010 zł a month for one person and 823 zł for someone living with family, on top of rent and utilities. It puts the return ticket at 2,500 zł for citizens of countries outside the EU and 200 zł for neighbouring countries.
We could not open the official migration service page, so check the amount with your voivodeship before you apply.
Common mistakes parents make
- Counting only tuition. A year of living often costs more than the study itself.
- Mixing up a semester and a year. AGH gives its price per semester.
- Trusting the "€2,000 a year" figure from old overviews. The official portal gives no general price today.
- Not checking the price of your exact programme. Computer Science and Space Engineering at one university differ by a factor of 2.4.
- Forgetting the application fee. At AGH it is 85–100 zł for each chosen field.
- Not setting money aside for the residence permit and the ticket home.
What you can do yourself and what we take on
You can choose the city and field and collect the school certificate and papers yourself. The risk of a mistake sits where universities ask for a particular document format and have different deadlines. We check your documents, choose universities that fit the budget and handle the application. Our work for one university in Poland costs $269, and you pay the university's own fee separately, on its invoice, with no mark-up from us.
Once you are accepted, we help with the residence permit: the residence permit service costs $160. If you need your documents recognised, there is a recognition service at $160, through a partner and on request. The university decides on admission, and we do not promise a result.
What to do today
Write down three things: the level (bachelor's or master's), the field, and the sum your family can set aside for a year. Compare it with the scenarios above.
