China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) is a small, elite institution in Beijing, founded in 1955 on Premier Zhou Enlai's own initiative specifically to train China's diplomats. It reports directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chinese universities tighten portfolio and motivation-letter requirements every year — we track this university by university, so every application matches what the admissions committee actually expects right now.

CFAU isn't part of Project 211 or 985 — as a narrowly specialized, ministry-run institution it sits outside that classification — but its admission scores and competitiveness rank among the highest of any Chinese university. A significant share of China's ambassadors and senior diplomats are CFAU graduates.

The university specializes in diplomacy, international relations, international law, and foreign languages for the diplomatic service. Its small size means unusually close contact with faculty, many of whom have their own diplomatic experience. CFAU admits a limited number of international students to language programs, bachelor's and master's degrees.
