The University of Caen Normandy (Unicaen) is a public university in Caen, in north-western France. It is one of the country's oldest universities and the main university of its region.
It was founded in 1432 by John of Lancaster, Duke of Bedford. Its first rector was Michael Tregury, later Archbishop of Dublin. It began with two faculties, canon law and law, and by 1438 it already had five. King Charles VII of France later confirmed the foundation. Today Unicaen teaches a wide range of subjects, from law to the natural sciences.
International applicants should know that almost all programmes are taught in French, so a good level of the language is needed. Caen is a friendly student city within easy reach of Paris.
