Henan University (HENU) is one of China's oldest universities, founded in 1912 in Kaifeng, the ancient capital of the Northern Song dynasty. Despite its long history and its role as the leading comprehensive university of China's most populous province, HENU has never been part of Project 211 or 985 — though it does take part in the Double First-Class initiative.
