Kyushu University is the largest university on the island of Kyushu and is located in Fukuoka. It is a public research university founded in 1911, with roots going back to the medical school of the Fukuoka Domain, established in 1867. It is one of the leading centres of higher education and research in Kyushu and in Japan as a whole.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2027, the university is ranked 171st in the world and 7th in Japan. As of May 2024 it enrolled 2,569 international students.
International applicants will find a well-established international community: by its own figures, Kyushu ranks fourth among Japan's national universities for the number of international students it hosts. The university is in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu.
