Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) is a private university in Beppu, Εita, Japan. It was founded in 2000 by three parties from the public and private sectors: Εita Prefecture, Beppu City, and the Ritsumeikan Trust. The university has a student body of about 5,850, with roughly 2,900 domestic and 2,900 international students.
APU's defining academic feature is this balanced international environment. About half of the students come from outside Japan, so intercultural exchange is part of everyday study rather than an add-on. The university's founding also brought together the public and private sectors β the prefecture, the city, and the Ritsumeikan Trust.
