The University of Insubria is a public university in northern Lombardy. It gained full status on 14 July 1998 and takes its name from Insubria, the historical region along the Swiss border. It has two main sites, Como and Varese, which its statute treats as equals, plus teaching facilities in Saronno and Busto Arsizio. The rector's office is in Como, in Palazzo Natta, a 16th-century noble palace.
The university grew out of branches of the University of Pavia, the University of Milan and the Politecnico di Milano, which had operated in Varese since 1972 and in Como since 1989. That history shapes its core: medicine, the sciences, economics, engineering and law. Medical students train at the Ospedale di Circolo e Fondazione Macchi in Varese, the main university hospital. The Department of Law, Economics and Cultures sits in the cloister of the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio in Como, one of the oldest in Europe.
Insubria is a quieter alternative to Milan: Como and Varese are small cities near the lakes and the Swiss border, with Milan within reach. The university works closely with the universities of Milan and Pavia and with institutions in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Before you apply, check the language of your programme and which city it is taught in, since departments are spread across several sites.

Common questions about admission
Why apply through UNIPROFI specifically?
UNIPROFI is about a well-thought-out application and a strong outcome: we build an application path around your profile, goals and the requirements of your selected universities. You work with mentors who are current students or graduates of these schools, so you get real understanding of the system, campuses and opportunities — not theory. We take on complex cases (including minors and admission without an 11th-grade diploma), build an individual strategy for your profile and goals, and support you through every stage, from documents to your visa.
Do you guarantee admission?
We don't offer "guarantees for the sake of a sale," because no one can directly influence a university's decision. What we do is structure everything to minimize the risk of rejection: matching you to the right universities, building a strong application strategy and preparing documents carefully. If you complete the whole process under your plan and are not admitted to any of the universities we applied to, the service agreement lets you choose: a refund minus costs already incurred (university fees, translations, courier) or a free re-application for the next intake.
What are my actual chances of getting in?
We do not state a universal admission probability because the decision belongs to the university. We instead assess your profile, programme requirements and application strategy.
Can I apply on my own — why do I need you?
You can, but most students end up losing time, making mistakes, or settling for weaker universities. We save you months, help you start at a stronger level, and prevent the mistakes that can cost you admission.
