The University of Szeged (Hungarian: Szegedi TudomΓ‘nyegyetem, SZTE) is a public research university in Szeged, Hungary. Its history began in KolozsvΓ‘r (now Cluj-Napoca), where a Jesuit academy was founded in 1581; Emperor Franz Joseph I re-established it as a university in 1872. After the First World War, the university moved to Szeged in 1921.
After the move to Szeged, the university had four faculties β law, medicine, mathematics and natural sciences, and arts. It is one of the oldest research universities in Hungary.
