Hanyang University (HYU, Korean: 한양대학교) is a private research university in Seoul and Ansan (ERICA campus), South Korea. The name Hanyang derives from the former name of Seoul used during the Joseon period. The university was founded in 1939 as an engineering school and was the country's first private college to offer engineering and architecture programs.
The university's academic identity is rooted in engineering and architecture, the fields on which Hanyang was built. It remains a private research university with campuses in Seoul and Ansan.
International applicants are an established part of Hanyang: the university enrolls over 3,000 international students each year. More than 3,300 Hanyang students take part in study-abroad programs, so a degree here can include international mobility as well.
