Yonsei University is a private Christian research university in Seoul and one of the three most prestigious universities in South Korea. Together with the country's two other leading universities, it belongs to a group commonly referred to as SKY. Yonsei traces its roots to Korea's first modern medical center, Gwanghyewon, founded in April 1885.
Medicine is one of Yonsei's foundations: the center founded in 1885 later grew into Severance Union Medical College, which remains part of the university today. Medical studies are an important part of Yonsei's academic profile, and the university as a whole is a modern research institution.
Yonsei is located in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, so studying there means life in a large, modern city.
