Istanbul Technical University (ITU) is a public technical university in Istanbul, founded in 1773, when the Ottoman Empire was ruled by Sultan Mustafa III. It is one of the world's oldest technical universities, historically dedicated to engineering and natural sciences, with social sciences added in recent years.
The university offers 39 bachelor's programmes and 144 master's programmes, and operates 13 colleges (faculties), 346 laboratories and 12 research centres. Its academic strength lies in engineering and natural sciences, which makes ITU one of Turkey's leading technical universities.
