The University of Ulsan is a private university in Nam District, Ulsan. Chung Ju-yung, the founder of Hyundai Group, set it up in 1969 as the Ulsan Institute of Technology, and it became a four-year university in 1985. It has about 10,500 students.
Ulsan grew up around Hyundai, and the link to industry shows. Hyundai announced 40 billion won for university-industry projects. Today the university has 12 colleges, from engineering, architecture and business to medicine, music and design, along with 15 research institutes. The Institute of e-Vehicle Technology opened in 2004 with support from the city and the Korean government.
You can stay on after your bachelor's: the general Graduate School offers master's degrees in 29 disciplines and doctorates in 19 areas. If you're drawn to cars, manufacturing or engineering, the city's industry is a real plus. Admission requirements depend on the programme and the intake year.
